You will need:
- 1/2 of a
styrofoam egg carton lid for each child
- chip boxes
or cereal boxes to cut the runners from (see
shape in illustration)
- one pipe
cleaner for each child
- two 'runners'
for each child
- tinfoil
- masking tape
- crayons
- a darning
needle or other sharp pointed object
What to do:
- precut the
egg carton lids in half
- prepoke two
holes in the 'front' end of the sled so that the pipe cleaner handle
can be easily poked through by the child
- precut the
cardboard runners for each child
- pass out
the parts of the sled to the children and encourage them to 'build'
their own sled from the parts
- they could
cover the runners with tinfoil to make them look like metal and then
tape them to the under side of their sled base, then
- bend them
down like blades
- the pipe
cleaner can be poked through the front holes and twisted together
to make a handle for their sled
- they may
wish to decorate their sled using their crayons
Optional:
- children
may like to make a 'snowman' to ride in their sled
- glue two
puff balls together and add paper or rolly eyes, a paper hat, nose
and mouth
- use a scrap
of fabric or a piece of yarn for a scarf
- then children
can take 'Frosty' for a ride
