You will need:
- A VERY BRIGHT,
SUNNY DAY
- about one
or two hours for the ‘photo process’ to occur
- a small pail
for each child to collect objects in
- a sheet of
dark-colored construction paper for each child (it is important
to have fairly new paper or the color may already be too faded for
this to work)
- assorted objects
collected from out of doors (ie. leaves, a dandelion, rocks or
pebbles, etc.)
- crayons or
water-based markers or pencils
What to do:
- make sure
each child has something to gather object in
- tell children
that they are going to go on a nature hunt to find things that they
might like to take a picture of
- give them
a few ideas of what to collect in their pails or containers
- go out of
doors as a group and start to hunt (STAY TOGETHER)
- when children
have collected a few items, call them together and explain how they
will take a picture of their items
- pass out a
sheet of dark colored construction paper to each child
- label papers
either ahead of time or encourage children to do it
- explain that
they are to lay their paper on the ground in the sunlight
- on top of
their paper, they are to arrange their objects in an interesting way
- leave the
pictures with objects for about one or two hours in the bright sunlight
and DO NOT TOUCH!
- after an hour
or two have passed, encourage children to find their paper and objects
- remove objects
back into pail or container
- look at image
on paper (the sun will have bleached some of the color from the
paper wherever it was exposed - wherever it ws covered by an object,
it will look darker)
- encourage
children to identify the images left on their papers as to which of
their objects created which mark
