You will need:
- one flimsy
paper plate with fluted edges per child
- a bird stencil
(see diagram)
- children’s
craft scissors
- crayons
What to do:
- trace the
bird stencil onto the paper plates
- pass out paper
plates and tell children they are going to make a bird whose wings
will flap
- encourage
children to cut along the lines on their plates
- next, encourage
children to color their birds on both sides
- then fold
the birds in half lengthwise so there is a crease running down the
centre of the bird’s body
- tell children
to hold on to their birds by the tail (ie. have thumb on top and
grasp tail firmly)
- quickly move
arm up and down and ‘wings’ will flap gently
- label work
- clean up
