What to do:
- go over various
safety rules with children ahead of time
- tell them that
they are going to play a game that will help them to remember some
of their safety rules
- tell them the
rules and show the appropriate actions
- the leader calls
out the safety rule and the children must quickly respond with the
correct action
Rules & Actions:
- STOP! DROP!
ROLL! -stop, drop, roll on floor, (used
if clothing is on fire)
- SHUT THE DOOR!
- pretend to shut door (used
if it is smoky and to prevent fire from spreading)
- CRAWL! - crawl
on floor on hands and knees (used
when it is smoky and hard to breathe as fresh air tends to stay down
low)
- RUN COLD WATER!
- pretend to turn on tap on hand (used
on minor burns to the skin)
- LOOK LEFT,
LOOK RIGHT, LOOK LEFT AGAIN! do actions of looking left, right, left
again - (used
when crossing the street)
- DIAL 911 -
pretend to hold phone and press 911 (used
in cases of emergency ie. fire, accident)
