You will need:
- a large-sized
play space
- lots of yarn
or string and masking tape
- pre-made road
signs (ie.
yield, stop, traffic lights, crosswalk, etc.)
- margarine
lids for steering wheels or let cihldren use their home-made
‘cars’
What to do:
- pre-make a course
for the childrren to follow using the yarn or string and masking tape
to mark out the roads
- make intersections
and place road signs strategically
- mark out crosswalk
signs and crosswalks over the roads
- encourage children
to drive around in their ‘cars’ and obey the traffic signals
- let one or more
children be the policemen with their ‘stop
signs’
- let some children
be school patrols with their stop signs
- make a railway
crossing by using a broom between two chairs across the roadway and
let a child operate it for the cars
- encourage children
to rotate around and to obey road signs at all times
