You will need:
- one or more stencils
of a stop sign shape (octagonal or 8 sides) with a handle-shape
coming out of the bottom side
- one front
or back face of a chip box or cereal box for each child
- pencils
- children's
scissors
- newspapers
- red paint

one wooden chopstick or tomato stick and tape for each project
What to do:
- pre-draw
and cut out the stop sign shape onto medium-weight cardboard OR
- encourage children
to trace around the stop-sign shape and cut out their own
- pre-print the
word 'STOP' onto the sign or encourage older children to copy your example
of how to spell 'STOP' onto their signs themselves
- encourage children
to color the word 'stop' white and to carefully paint or color the rest
of their sign red
- (optional)
when the signs have dried help the children tape a wooden stick to the
back of their sign for added strength
- label signs
- clean up
Play/Learning:
- let children pretend
to be policemen or school patrols with their signs
- set-up or
visit practice streets, for tricycles or even cardboard
cars and trucks.
