pre-staple
lengths of elastic thread to each paper plate (tie
a knot in the end nearest the staple to prevent thread from pulling through)
-
pass
out paper plates and crayons
-
tell
children they are going to be making a spider with wiggly legs
-
encourage
them to draw a face on their paper plate for their spider
-
pass
out strips of paper and sheets of wax paper with tape on them and tell
children they are for their spider's legs
-
to
help cildren accordian fold their paper, go through the process step by
step
-
the
easiest way for a young child to achieve wiggly spider legs is by being
encouraged to fold one strip in half, then in half again, half again until
it is very small
-
now
open up the folded leg and gently shake it loose
-
it
will be folded (although
not perfectly accordian folded)
and will still achieve the 'wiggly' look once taped around the edge of
their plates
-
try
not to dictate where the legs should be place - there is no right or wrong
way to place their spider's legs!
