a medium
sized play space with a wall or blackboard or side of fridge
a numbered
or named nose for each child playing
masking tape
rolled into sticky circles or a magnet for each child
a blindfold
(either
cloth or a mask)
a picture
of Rudolph with a blank circle for his nose (or
no nose at all)
What to do:
explain to
children that this is a picture of Rudolph but, oh dear, Rudolph has
no nose
show them
the noses
show them
how the noses stick onto Rudolph's picture
let them
take turns sticking a nose onto Rudolph so they get the idea
then tell
them that that was too easy
now you are
going to get to try and stick Rudolph's nose on but without being
able to see (show
them the blindfold)
let children
experiment with the blindfold
then say,
"Okay, this time is for real"
"Let's see
who can get the closest to Rudolph's nose"!
play the
game using the blindfold and assigning one nose to each child
encourage
them along and stress not to peek
many children
do not like to miss and will inevitably peek
don't dwell
on this too much just loudly praise those children who did not peek
have a small
treat or prize for each child's effort or just play for fun
Special Note:
You may want to hang a sheet in front of Rudolph's
face and let children try and stick Rudolph's nose on by reaching
up and under the sheet - then no blindfolds are necessary.
