You will need:
- a medium to large play space
- a group of children
- a play parachute
What to do:
- children spread around the
playchute holding it with fingers on the top and thumbs underneath the
edge of the chute
- sit on floor on
bottoms with legs fully extended towards the centre of the parachute (underneath
the chute)
- the parachute represents the
ocean
- the children are dangling
their feet in the ocean and a shark might come along and nibble their
toes!
- one child is chosen to be
"it" or the "Shark"
- instruct this
child to go under the chute and bend one arm up onto his/her back to make
the shape of a triangle sticking up or a Shark’s fin (or just stand,
hunched slightly)
- all remaining children move
the parachute up and down in waves to semi-hide the movements of the shark
- "Sharky" goes around
under the chute for a few seconds and then chooses one child’s feet to
jiggle with their free hand
- this child must then disappear
into the ocean and becomes the new "Sharky" and repeats the
process
- any child who
has had a turn being the shark sits with their legs crossed-up-under them,
but still under the chute, so new "Sharky’s" know they’ve already
been nibbled (and had a turn)
- game continues until all have
had a turn being the shark
